ALL STAFF IN JUNIOR PRIMARY, PRIMARY, SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND SPECIAL EDUCATION SETTINGS INCLUDING LEADERSHIP, SPECIAL EDUCATION AND SUBJECT COORDINATORS, CLASSROOM TEACHERS, TRTS, AND SUPPORT STAFF

PRESENTED BY KAY BOSWORTH, SPECIALIST LITERACY TEACHER & EDUCATIONAL CONSULTANT

This workshop is intended for all school staff working with students or involved in planning, program or policy development for student literacy acquisition, including secondary staff who have students who have struggled with the building blocks required for reading, writing and spelling success. The skills of reading, writing and spelling are “rocket science” (L.Moats). This workshop investigates the why, what and the how of teaching the essential elements of the layers of the English language to improve these skills for all students.

Learning outcomes for this workshop include:

  • Understanding the science of the research into why we need to teach reading, writing and spelling explicitly
  • What are the Layers of Language and the essential elements of quality classroom literacy teaching and successful learning
  • How do we engage all learners and meet the needs of the variety of learners in each classroom
