PRESENTER - KYMBERLY LOUISE, BEHAVIOURAL SCIENTIST

This workshop is intended for all school staff working with students or involved in planning, program or policy development for student wellbeing when working with students with intellectual disability. This practical workshop will provide information and hands-on learning about using a team approach to support students in transitioning well into new school or class environments; to prepare the new environments in a way that maximises successful inclusion; or just for refreshing skills to ensure a more successful experience in the future in continuing environments.

Learning outcomes for this workshop include:

  • Understanding the student – characteristics, learning skills and challenges
  • Developing social skills – using visuals – independent learning – contracts
  • Collaborative practice – all levels of staff, parents and peers
  • Understanding behaviour and Influences on behaviour.
