HOW TO BE SAFE ONLINE: INCREASING ONLINE SAFETY FOR ADOLESCENTS WITH IMPAIRED SOCIAL AWARENESS

RIVERLAND - BARMERA GOLF CLUB - TWILIGHT SESSION

ALL STAFF IN MIDDLE AND SECONDARY SCHOOL, SPECIAL EDUCATION, AND COMMUNITY SETTINGS

PRESENTED BY KYMBERLY LOUISE, BEHAVIOURAL SCIENTIST

This workshop is intended for all school staff working with adolescents who need extra support and explicit instruction to maintain cyber safety. The workshop will provide information for educators to effectively teach safe and unsafe online behaviours to students who may not inherently understand the risks due to intellectual disability, lack of social awareness, or trauma related difficulties.

Learning outcomes for this workshop include:

  • Awareness of common pitfalls related to the online behaviour of students at risk
  • Knowledge of the pre-requisite skills students will need to develop in order to safeguard online behaviour
  • Resources to use with students to teach safe online behaviour related to sending and receiving of photos, cyberbullying, and social media use
