KYMBERLY LOUISE - 2 PART WORKSHOP 15TH & 29TH MARCH 2021

6-STEP POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT SYSTEM - 2 PART WORKSHOP

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A 2-PART WORKSHOP OVER 2 CONSECUTIVE FORTNIGHTS. PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN DATA COLLECTION SKILLS IN PART 1 AND BE EXPECTED TO COLLECT DATA IN ORDER TO ANALYSE AND DEVELOP STRATEGIES IN PART 2.

PRESENTER - KYMBERLY LOUISE, BEHAVIOURAL SCIENTIST

Suitable for all school staff, the 6-step process will introduce you to a systematic approach to reducing behaviours of concern in the educational environment. It is based on systematic processes derived from decades of evidence-based practice in psychology, disability, and education. Please note that this is an introductory workshop only, and achieving full benefits of a PBS approach will require more practice and follow up training over time.

15TH MARCH
PART 1 – INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION & TRAINING FOR DATA COLLECTION
Participants will be introduced to the positive behaviour support framework and learn about common functions of behaviour and how they relate to students with disability and trauma and their environment. You will be trained in 3 methods of data collection in order to collect data on a student of your choice and return in 2 weeks to analyse the data in Part 2. This workshop is best suited for staff teams to participate, as strategies discussed can involve hands-on 1-1 interaction, or site-wide change to reduce the instances of challenging functional behaviour.

Preparation between sessions: Participants will collect data on a student of choice. This will require making time to observe the student as they interact with other staff members, and where possible have other staff members observe the student as they interact with you. You will also need to access other sources of data e.g. service provider reports.

29TH MARCH
PART 2 – CONDUCT FUNCTIONAL BEHAVIOUR ASSESSMENT & DEVELOP STRATEGIES TO SUPPORT YOUR STUDENT

Participants will learn how to conduct a functional behaviour assessment on the data they have collected and develop strategies to support the student more effectively.

Certificates will be provided that include reference to the Teacher Standards that apply to this workshop:

  • Standard 4.2: Model and share with colleagues a flexible repertoire of strategies for classroom management to ensure all students are engaged in purposeful activities
  • Standard 4.3: Develop and share with colleagues a flexible repertoire of behaviour management strategies using expert knowledge and workplace experience.
